Want to start volunteering? Laramie downtown offers a wide range of fun, exciting, and fullfilling opportunities to get involved in the community. Take your pick from Jubilee Days to the Farmer's Market, downtown cleanup to standing commitees. Every Month we feature an individual as our "Volunteer of the Month."  Each one of these special individuals is highlighted below.  One can readily see that they all come from a wide range of backgrounds and each contribution to downtown is unique. What they all have in common is tireless service and support of downtown. Likewise, regardless of what background or interests you hold, Laramie Main Street needs you to make downtown the best it can be. Everyone with a stake in the Laramie community has a chance to make a make their own special difference with Laramie Main Street.

    Sarah Perrine

Sarah is a member of the Laramie Main Street board of directors.  She is also a member of the Albany County Historic Preservation Society.  She has been instrumental in creating the seven award winning Laramie Tour Brochures.  Sarah is being recognized this month in particular for her assistance every week from July 3, 2009-September 3, 2009 so far at the Downtown Farmers Market on Friday afternoons.  Thank you Sarah!

    Tim Chesnut

Tim Chesnut is a member of the Laramie Main Street board of directors. He is also a one of our Albany County Comissioners. Tim has been volunteering with us at the Farmer's Market and he has been a tremendous asset to Laramie Main Steet.  Tim donated two of his photos for us to raffle as a fundraiser.  In 5 days we made $327.00 which went toward the 1st Street Plaza. Thank you Tim!

                                             Gary Espeland

Gary Espeland and his wife Pennie have been actively involved in the community with many civic organizations such as the Albany County Tourism Board, the Laramie Plains Museum, the Board of Realtors, and others. Gary is a broker/realtor in Laramie. Gary and Pennie own and operate a lovely bed and breakfast downtown called The Brick Bed and Breakfast.  Both Gary and Pennie deserve kudos on a regular basis. Gary is a member of our Laramie Main Street Organization Committee. We chose Gary for Volunteer of the Month for his fundraising efforts of the Garfield Street Footbridge lighting project as well as work on the 1st Street plaza. Gary's efforts during the last during the last few days of the lighting project brought us to our final fundraising goal. Gary, thank you on behalf of Laramie Main Street!

       Christie Roberts

Christie is a professional engineer and new President of Gertsch-Baker & Associates, a local design firm.  She heads up the renovations department, whose latest fun project was conceptual plans for Rehabilitation of the Grand Encampment Opera House.  This project is on track to receive funding from a Community Facilities Grant through the Wyoming Business Council this year.  Downtown, we have renovated High Performance Sports Medicine and the Downtown Clinic in the last couple of years.
With Main Street, she, with the help of the Design Committee, hosted Profit and Loft, a workshop on upstairs downtown development, we facilitated the design of the 1st Street Plaza through public workshops and now in the fund-raising stage.  Prior to that we developed Design Guidelines and hosted a workshop for the public about those.  Next we'll probably work on visual improvements along 3rd Street.  Christie said, "I wouldn't have accomplished any of this without the commitment and help of all the Design Committee members."
Outside of work, she completed the Master Gardener class in 2008, but I'm still working on getting a good cucumber crop in Laramie.  Her husband and she just took a climbing trip to Arizona over the Thanksgiving holiday, at which she cooked my first turkey in a dutch oven.  Whatever other free time she has is filled exercising her two dogs, Moki and Bandit, and clicking pictures of our outings.
Thank you Christy on behalf of Laramie Main Street!

                                                                 Denise Deem

Denise has been in retail for 25 years; travel; furniture; electronics. Denise is passionately involved in several volunteer efforts.  For the past eleven years, Denise Deem has taught Junior Achievement classes in local elementary schools.  Her service has been especially poignant in Laramie's downtown.  She produced and coordinated the 1st Annual Gem City Car Classic, whichwas a huge success for the downtown.  She coordinated Trick or Treat, which the downtown merchants just participated in last week.  Denise is also responsible to coordinating photos with Santa on the first Saturday of December.  Denise has been active in the Downtown Laramie Business Association, a strong downtown organization, and served as the DLBA's president in 2008-2009.  Laramie Main Street congratulates Denise on all of her outstanding volunteer efforts!

                                                                     Misty Hester

They are the owners and operators of the lovely downtown antique store, Antique Fever.  In addition to their downtown entrepreneurial work, they both volunteer with the Downtown Laramie Business Association (DLBA). Misty volunteers as the Marketing Chair for the Downtown Laramie Business Association. She has multiple responsibilities as a part of the DLBA.  She coordinates the publication of the DLBA brochures. These brochures are a full color tri fold that is distributed through out the state of Wyoming as well as Northern Colorado. Misty is  the point of contact for  the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce when asked to participate in the UW Discovery Days, orientation, and resource fairs. She will be at these functions handing out community information to help visitors to get to know Laramie.  Additionally, Misty coordinates all the advertising/marketing for the DLBA 'Meet Us Downtown' campaign as well as helping with the advertising of the various events held downtown.

Misty also volunteers at various DLBA events through out the year working whatever job that is needed to make the event a success. For example, partnering with Hospice of Laramie to make sure the Breakfast and Photos with Santa run smoothly.  Thank you Misty from all of us at Laramie Main Street!
