Call for Youth Art to Celebrate 10 Years of Revitalization
The Laramie Main Street Alliance (LMSA) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that strives to preserve historic downtown Laramie while enhancing its economic and social vitality. Throughout 2015 we’ll be celebrating our 10-year anniversary as a Wyoming Main Street program with special monthly activities to recognize our community’s role in revitalizing the downtown.
For the month of April, we’ll be hosting a youth art competition and would like to hear from young artists in our community about the things they love about downtown. We invite the creation of pieces of art that explore the cultural assets of the historic district. Examples include favorite buildings and architecture, businesses and business owners, murals and public spaces, festivals and historic events.
Artwork will be featured in downtown business windows and on our social media feeds. Submissions will be juried by the Laramie Mural Project artists to determine “Best Of Show” as well as voted on by visitors for a “People’s Choice” award. Winners will receive downtown gift certificates.
Submission Guidelines and Requirements Artists and instructors will take into consideration the following when creating the piece:
•Use of letter (8.5 x 11), legal (11 x 14) or tabloid size (11 x 17) paper is preferred.
•Each piece must be prepared by a K-12 artist in Albany County.
•On the back of the artwork, include the name of the student, name of school or program, and a phone number for the teacher or guardian.
•Submissions must be mailed or hand delivered to 207 Grand Ave., Laramie, WY 82070 by 5 PM on April 16. Please call 307-760-3355 for hours.
It is understood that by participating in this call, artwork submitted may be photographed and reproduced for publicity, publication and educational purposes connected with this project, and that such material may be used for future promotional purposes by the Laramie Main Street Alliance.
