Even though I'm not Japanese, this particular recipe and style of Japanese curry was an ever present meal in my childhood that speaks to all of my food sensibilities. It's really emblematic for me as a first generation Asian American, a child who grew up being from multiple worlds that I never completely belonged in, but found its own way of existing. This culture crossing recipe speaks to this aspect of my background, an expression of multiple cultures and worlds.
