Pretty hard to spend any extended time in Malaysia and not fall in love with what street vendors and coffee (kopi) shops have to offer to cool you down in the heat of the tropics! How does some iced, freshly squeezed sugar cane juice sound? Awesome. How about some cool lychee drink? Most excellent. A refrigerated fresh coconut with a straw, to boot? Glorious! Oh, and a flagon of iced, freshly squeezed star fruit juice...where am I? Tropical heaven? Hard to beat indeed!

And, for a more special flavor, and for that particular mood, there’s the rose-flavored air bandung (“air” is pronounced ‘ah • ye’ in a quick and smooth transition between the ‘ah’ and ‘ye’ and “bandung” is pronounced ‘bahn’, like bahn mi, and ‘doong’ like dune just with an ‘ng’ ending). The sweet, creaminess from the condensed milk and the unique, almost pungent flavor from the rose syrup, complimented by the chill that ice brings, makes air bandong somewhat of a comfort drink for those who know of it. As with all delicious things in the Malay cuisine, air bandung is for all to share in its majesty! Enjoy!
